How to order plants
We typically offer sales beginning close to New Year’s Day/January 1st and ship plants from March to June. We only grow the plants that we have sold in advance for each shipping date and we do not grow plants on speculation. We closely monitor our sales and shut off shipping dates as sales dictate so that we do not overbook a particular shipping date. Once a date is filled it is removed from the shipping date drop down menu (at checkout).
To place an order you will need to enter a “purchase code”. We begin to send out these codes via email to our existing customers first. Updates about this will be posted on the website homepage as it varies from year to year. We consider existing customers to be those who have ordered in the last few years and review this list annually.
If you are not an existing customer and are interested in placing an order please email us. Simply send a message with the Subject “New Customer Request” and provide your full name, and business name, if applicable. If we are able to take on new customers we will contact you via email with a “purchase code”.
All of our plants and products are listed on the “Cultivars/Products” page. Once on this page click on a photo, or the text below a photo, and a new page will display all of the plants we offer in that class. This is where the “add to cart” button will appear under each plant if you have a purchase code.
Our minimum order is 10 plants, which can all be different. Once you have finished shopping click on the cart button to review your order and check out.
All customers are required to pay for their order at the time the order is placed regardless of the shipping date that is available or chosen. Customers should receive an email confirmation of their order and a payment notification.
Once an order is paid for and confirmed via email we guarantee to fill it regardless of whether or not we stop taking other orders. If for some reason we are unable to fulfil any or all of an order we will send a refund.
We reserve the right, in our sole discretion, to temporarily suspend or deactivate your account, or to permanently close your account. We also reserve the right to refuse service to anyone, for any reason, at any time.
How to order products or publications
Products and publications are our non-plant items.
If you would like to order any of the products or publications when we are not selling plants please contact us via e-mail (mums@kingsmums.com) and we will make arrangements for this. You may write “product order” in the subject line and include the products you would like to order in your message. These are listed on the "cultivars/products" near the bottom of the page as "Gardening Products" and "Publications".
Payment for these orders will be arranged using PayPal invoices. Invoices arrive in the form of an email with a one-time use link. They are set only for the amount that is owed. Any credit card can be used and a PayPal account is not required to be able to pay (they will ask though).
What will I receive?
We are proud of our reputation for shipping the finest quality rooted cuttings available. We ship three week old, rooted plants. They are approximately 3 to 6 inches tall, and are rooted sufficiently for planting.
All of our rooted plants are propagated in Ellepot. These “pots” are made using a 100% biodegradable paper fabric sleeve. Each pot contains our custom soil mix and is designed to be planted directly into pots or whatever other container you choose to use.
Please note that Chrysanthemum varieties have individual characteristics, not only in flowers, but in their root structure as well. In most cases the roots of each cutting have already penetrated the sides of the Ellepot. Although it is not necessary to remove the biodegradable sleeve from the Ellepots plug, it may be removed if desired. We do not recommend this as it may also cause damage to the root system if removed.
The plants are shipped in small plastic bags nestled in a cardboard box with Styrofoam peanuts. Each plant is individually labeled, or if multiple plants of one cultivar are in a bag, there will be a single label included for all.
Our plants leave the nursery in good growing condition, and are guaranteed to arrive in good condition. Any order, which is not satisfactory, must be reported to us within 10 days of arrival. After this time, we cannot make any adjustments.
When should I plant in my area?
Chrysanthemums will bloom at their scheduled times when planted prior to July. Thus, there is no need to rush to plant in the colder areas of the U.S.A.
The best time to plant Chrysanthemums into the garden is in the spring after all danger of frost has passed. Customers must determine the best planting time for their location. To view the average frost dates in your area you can click on the this link to the National Gardening Association’s website https://garden.org/apps/frost-dates/
We recommend choosing a shipping date close to or after the last spring frost date in your area unless you have a protective structure, such as a greenhouse or a sun room. Remember, these are small plants that have been grown in an extremely warm greenhouse environment until they were shipped. It is important not to plant into the garden too early as cool soil temperatures can slow growth. If the air temperatures drop too cold it can induce early flowering or do severe damage to the young plants.
We recommend starting our plants in small pots before planting them into the garden (or larger pots) in order to establish a larger root system. As mentioned previously, unless you have a good place to grow them indoors you should wait to receive plants until a date that is close to your last spring frost date. The plants will grow better outdoors from the beginning rather starting off indoors in a dark location even if it is warmer. At worst the plants can be moved indoors overnight for added warmth and protection if desired or required while being established in the small pots.
What should I do when my plants arrive?
Open the bag(s) and remove the plants as soon as possible. Watch for plant labels: 1 to 2 plants will have a wraparound label attached to them, but multiple plants of the same cultivar will have one labeled plant in the bag or per cultivar. Your mums are in Elle Pots and you do not need to remove the paper sleeves. You may remove the paper sleeves if you desire to do so but we do not recommend it.
We recommend that you plant your rooted cuttings in 4-inch or 6-inch pots using a lightly composted soil mix or any soilless potting mix – avoid using “moisture control soil mix”. Water your plants in with clear water or a liquid fertilizer at a low rate or half the recommended rate on the label. You may mist the foliage if the plants look wilted; be careful not to over water them while doing so. Keep your plant out of full, direct sunlight especially in the afternoon hours for the first few days to allow them to acclimate. After this they should be given as much sunlight as possible. If you desire you may transplant them into larger pots after 3-4 weeks. After all danger of frost has passed you may move them outside in pots or into your garden.
